Does the Common App ask for Social Security numbers?

Hey guys, kinda stressed bc I'm not sure about this. Does the Common App require you to put in your Social Security number? Will colleges still consider my application if I'm not comfortable sharing that info?

Hello there! The Common Application does have a section for your Social Security Number (SSN), but it is not required to complete your application. Your SSN is typically used to match your application with financial aid documents like the FAFSA, so if you're applying for financial aid, including your SSN can be helpful. However, if you're not comfortable sharing it, you can still submit your application without it. Colleges understand that not all students are able to or wish to provide their SSN, and your application can be processed and considered without it.

Just make sure you're consistent with your identifying information across all forms—if you've already submitted your SSN for some financial aid documents, for example, it might make sense to include it on the Common App as well. I hope this eases your stress a bit!
